Talent Team Land Young Deaf Filmmaker Placement With ITV Signpost

The National Youth Film Academy Talent Team helped young deaf Filmmaker Jessica Hungbeme land a fantastic placement with SignPost, a Gateshead based production company that provides sign language translations to major broadcasters.

Kenny Toal, Director at ITV SignPost said;

SignPost has diversity in its DNA. It is a centre of excellence for British sign language.

We are also committed to providing opportunities to diverse and mixed ability production crews.

Every programme SignPost produces is made with at least 50% deaf and people with disabilities.

We run bespoke training courses in presentation skills from our HD studio and organise workshops with industry professionals that give up-and-coming Filmmakers the opportunity to gain experience and insight from the best in the business.

We have linked up with some of the biggest universities in the country and are offering placement opportunities to those who express an interest in what we do.

Jessica will be helping research some of our documentary programmes. She will spend time on location with the production crew as well as time in our HD green-screen studio watching how we put visual signing on broadcast programmes.

She will also be reviewing and quality control checking some of our kids storytelling work, Signed Stories.

It’s important that she gets as much hands-on experience as possible.

Kenny Toal, Director at ITV SignPost

Well done Jessica!
