Professional filmmakers and NYFA members gathered at Odeon Luxe Birmingham last Tuesday to watch the first screening of On In 15, a NYFA-funded short film by Joseph Archer.
The sold out event, with more than 50 attendees, showcased the comedy-drama that is about a band who have to get on stage in 15 minutes, except their frontman has become unconscious. The short is also filmed in one continuous 15-minute take, or “oner”.
Alongside the screening was a Q&A from leading regional industry professionals, who discussed the topic “How do we encourage more young people to shoot and work in the West Midland Film industry”.
The panel included Sindy Campbell, Head of Film Birmingham, Alan Sharman, local talent agent and Daniel Alexander, a local award-winning filmmaker.
Daniel said the screening was “epic” and full of “young film talent on the rise”.
“I loved it, really enjoyed meeting everyone,” said Daniel, who is also a board member for Screen Central & Create Central.
“I thought the film was amazing, to do all that in a 15-minute shot was absolutely amazing. I thought the writing was really fluid as well, it was really refreshing, you don’t usually see shorts that are brave enough to do a one take. The subject matter of a band, meant there were a lot of great layers to the film”.
The event also allowed local filmmakers and new members to network with each other before and after the screening, with drinks and popcorn.
The next screening of On In 15, which will also include a panel and networking drinks takes place this Wednesday at ODEON Manchester.
On In 15 was funded by the NYFA’s Summer Shorts programme and filmed in August 2019.
