NYFA member lands role as Becky in film 'Ip Man 4'

Grace Englert is a talented actress and #SetReady Course 2017 alumni. Through the agency has landed a number of auditions…

But, now, Grace has landed her big break as she has been cast as Becky in the new Ip Man 4 film.

Ip Man 4

On 30 September 2016, Yen announced via Facebook that he and Wilson Yip would continue the franchise with Ip Man 4. Filming is scheduled to begin in 2018, and the film is being aimed for a release later that year.

Directed by Wilson Yip, Ip Man 4 is the fourth instalment of the Ip Man franchise. The martial arts film is set in 1960’s San Francisco and is about the real life of Wing Chun, which was brought over to the west by Bruce Lee. The film will see Ip Man travelling to the United States to work with Bruce Lee after the latter decides to open a Wing Chun school in Seattle.

Grace has secured the speaking role of Becky, an arrogant and willful American teenage girl. Her scenes involve cheerleading scenes and minor fighting – Grace’s athletic ability was seen as a bonus.

Grace’s thoughts…

“I am so excited to be cast in the Ip-Man film. I cannot wait to start filming. It has been a whirlwind audition process, so to be given the part I could not be more thrilled.

Being such a tiny midget of a person I always go around doing high kicks right up in people’s faces (because obviously the two are inexplicably linked), so it’s really quite surreal to then be cast in a martial arts film. Clearly, my martial arts skills are immense.

I will be playing the role of Becky, a really fascinating character. I loved getting my fingers into her for the audition process and I really look forward to playing with her more! Bring on the future!”

Best of luck during filming! We’re so excited to see the film when it’s done!
