Easter #SetReady and Emerging Brits 2019: Week Two

Our Easter 2019 #SetReady course is over!

It’s been an incredible two weeks – our participants have made connections with fellow Actors and Filmmakers that they will keep for a lifetime, and have produced a short film that they can be proud of.

Here’s a little run-through of what went down in the final week;

DAY ONE

Week two kicked off with another day of shooting for the majority of our #SetReady participants! The groups were out on set across London, pulling together shots for the final edit whilst the writers took part in an insightful day with Hayley McKenzie, CEO of renowned script development company Script Angel.

Emerging Brits spent the morning undergoing further script development with Paul Alexander, writer of Red Dwarf. In the afternoon the group was split into Filmmakers and Actors, the Filmmakers continued their session with Paul, receiving feedback on their scripts and continuing with Pre-Production, while Actors spent the afternoon with Director, Jonathan Firth, developing techniques in Acting for Screen.

DAY TWO

Day two saw the FINAL #SetReady shooting day for all of the groups and the race to edit began!

As for the Emerging Brits, they spent the morning rehearsing their scripts and preparing for the afternoon where they were joined by Director of Honeytrap, Rebecca Johnson. Rebecca worked with each of the three groups, watching a live rehearsal of the script and offering advice, guidance and feedback on the performance and concept.

DAY THREE

For the #SetReady Editors and Directors, day three was a full day of working to get that final edit put together, overseen by professional Editors, Jack Holden and Jack McBride.

The Actors and remaining Filmmakers spent the morning at Cineworld, attending informative and inspirational masterclasses from Liz Tucker, Managing Director of Verve Productions and Chair of UK Women in Film, followed by Matt Smith, Head of Distribution at Lionsgate.

The afternoon was jam packed with workshops! The Actors were split between Actor, Adam Leese’s, ‘Acting for Screen’ workshop, Casting Director, Sue Jones’s, casting workshop and National Youth Film Academy, CEO, Rob Earnshaw’s typecasting workshop. Filmmakers attended a workshop with Writer and Director, Kyla Simone Bruce, picking up tips on the next steps to take in the industry.

As for our Emerging Brits, they spent the day running through a rehearsed shoot, Writers perfecting their scripts, Actors rehearsing their parts and Filmmakers planning out shots ahead of filming in August.

DAY FOUR

Day Four consisted of another morning in the edit suite for our #SetReady Editors and Directors, working hard to meet the deadline of 1pm. The remaining participants spent another morning in the cinema, participating in a masterclass from United Agent’s, Sean Gascoine and a Q&A Panel with Directors UK, Equity UK and the Writers Guild. Both sessions offered participants the opportunity to ask speakers their burning questions!

Everyone was back together in the afternoon as the Directors and Editors arrived at the cinema for masterclasses with Film Festival expert, Elliot Grove, Founder of Raindance and motivational speaker, Adam Corbally.

The day ended with a wrap party where the food and drinks were flowing! Emerging Brits, who had spent another day rehearsing, joined the Set Ready participants to celebrate the film hand in and the end of their Set ready journey.

DAY FIVE

The final day means screening day! The Set Ready participants were joined by their friends and family, and Emerging Brits, for the final screening of the 19 short films, across 3 screens.

The course concluded with an after screening reception for everyone at All Bar One, complete with celebratory prosecco!

It’s been an incredible 10 days and we are so proud of what the groups achieved. We can’t wait to see what they get up to next, watch this space for updates!
